Exercising for many people is a great way to become stronger, as well feel better in the mind and body.  People with arthritis need to always try and keep it moving because the more a person becomes stagnate, the worse off their muscles and joints will be.  That’s just the fact of it all.  The more a person moves with physical activity, the better off not only will their bodies be, but the mind as well.  Exercise will release the “feel good” endorphins in a person’s brain during physical exercise, so it’s highly important that all persons engage in some format of exercise on the daily or weekly basis.  Today, we are going to be looking into some hip exercises for people which suffer with arthritis.

Stretching the Hip Bones and Lower Spine

This is a great way to start the day out if you suffer with arthritis.  What I would recommend you to do is go out and purchase a heavily padded Yoga mat, not just the thin ones because with arthritis, you don’t want to add extra pressure or pain to your joints and muscles.  Now, with your Yoga mat securely on the floor, what you will need to do is get down on all fours and bring your arms out above your head.  After you have that stance, what you will need to do next is to flex your pelvic area back and forth, making the spine appear longer with each movement.  It’s kind of like the downward dog position, except you will be moving back and forth in a rocking movement.  This will help to stretch your hip bones and lower back, building strength and stamina to help fight off the severity of arthritis.

Performing the Twist

This may sound very frightful to a lot of people which suffer from arthritis, but this physical activity can be very beneficial to the hip bones.  What you will need to do is get down on the floor and sit Indian style and make sure that you keep your back as straight as you possibly can.  The next thing that you will need to do is simply twist your back from left to right and always make sure that you are going quite slow at it just to be extra safe.  With your legs spread during the Indian style sitting position while you twist will help your hip bones to “breathe” in better words.  It wouldn’t hurt to even bring your legs straight out as if you’re doing the splits and try and touch your toes because this too, will help your hip bones to become stronger and more flexible.

Performing Kicks

This is another great physical activity that a person can engage in if they have arthritis.  You can actually do this type of physical activity two different ways, which is standing up or getting down on all fours.  If you want to stand up and perform a kick, then what you will need to do is first, brace yourself against a wall, keeping your back straight.  What you will then need to do next is kick your legs out straight and the extension of your hips moving will help to keep your joints and muscles around the hip area very strong and quite flexible.  Now, the next kick that you can perform is when you’re down on all fours on the floor.  Make sure you are comfortable with a Yoga mat underneath you and while you are on all fours and you will need to keep your back very straight.  After you make sure that your back is very straight, take a deep breath and while your leg is bent, all that you will need to do is simply kick out and up to the sky.  This is also a great physical exercise if you are wanting to buildup the muscles in your buttocks.  Now, with people that have arthritis, this is one of the best exercises to do if you are wanting to strengthen your hip area and cut down on the various forms of inflammation that you experience.  With these types of exercise, you are working the lower portions of your hip area, which will assist in keeping that area quite durable, resulting in taking down the brutality of arthritis all together.
